Some users have reported printouts with a greatly enlarged font while using dot-matrix printers. This error has been corrected and led to a slight modification of the Printing Routine. The Output Selection Screen now lets you choose the quality of your printout. The choices are High, Medium, Low, and Draft Quality. The big difference is the quality that the Logo is printed at. Draft mode eliminates the Logo and the boxes around the upper and lower sections of the page. This produces higher speed printouts for those using dot-matrix printers.
Whether or not this modification will affect your printout quality depends on the Windows Printer Driver available for your printer. If the Printer Driver for your printer does not have a resolution setting, the quality of the output will probably not be affected. Most Laser and Dot-Matrix printers have a resolution adjustment setting.
This modification has been incorporated into all orders that shipped on or after 2/18/97. If you would like this update, Please contact us by one of the methods above. Please indicate whether you would prefer the software update by E-mail, or floppy disk.

This error message indicates that the database table the Copy Sheets are stored in has become corrupted. The common thread where this has occurred, has been the use of Write-behind caching. This type of caching stores information that needs to be written to the hard disk and sends it when the system is idle or after a certain amount of time has elapsed. This is a built-in feature of Windows 95 and is provided by the SmartDrv Utility under the various versions of Windows 3.
To correct the error, the database table needs to be "re-packed" so the corruption is removed. This normally results in the loss of only one or two copy sheets. Disabling the write-behind caching and using the Table Utility provided here seems to correct the problem.
To disable write-behind caching under Windows 95, follow these steps: Click Start, Select Settings, Click on Control Panel, Double-click on System, Click on Performance, Click on File System, Click on TroubleShooting, Click in the white box next to Disable Write-behind caching for all drives, Click on OK, Click on OK. You will be prompted to Re-Start the system. Close the Control Panel and then click OK to Re-Start.
To disable Write-behind caching under Windows 3 requires the modification of your AUTOEXEC.BAT file. The specific line that loads SmartDrv needs to be removed, or modified to this: SMARTDRV 512 512 A- B- C D with a slight modification to include only the correct letters for the disk drives in your system.
We highly recommend, regardless of the software you use, that Write-behind caching be disabled on your system. We also strongly recommend that the SmartDrv utility not be used at all. Especially if you have 8mb of RAM, or less, in your system. The performance gained by the use of SmartDrv is very minimal. After downloading this file into a temporary directory, run the program from Windows 3.1 (File, Run, INSTALL.EXE) or Windows 95 (Start, Run, INSTALL.EXE) and it will lead you through the installation.
PLEASE NOTE: The Table Utility needs to be installed in the same directory as Radio Writer.

If you encouter any Database errors other than described above, you will need the DataBase Utility to repair those errors. This utility is also used to update the Index Files for older versions of Radio Writer Software. This is to prevent errors that may occur when your Filing Cabinet has a large number of copy files. Please contact us for assistance in using the DataBase Utility.
